MR Angiography

MR angiography has been available for years, and has continued to improve over time.  Now it is generally performed with IV gadolinium contrast agents.  These have no nephrotoxicity and can be used in patients with impaired renal function.

Carotid MRA (extracranial) - great for stenosis, but will not see calcified plaque (both a limitation and a benefit).

Intracranial MRA -  excellent assessment of the Circle of Willis and other major intracranial arteries.

Renal MRA - good on high field units, but limited on low field or patients that can't lie still (or that have active small bowel motion).

Peripheral Vascular MRA  - great for stenosis, but will not see calcified plaque.

MRV  (MR Venography) - typically performed assessment of dural venous sinuses of the brain.

Carotid and Intracranial MR Angiography are performed at SDI Diagnostic Imaging in South Tampa and at SDI Diagnostic Imaging in Oldsmar.

Renal MRA and Peripheral MRA are best performed on high field MR units available at St. Joseph's Hospital and St. Joseph's Diagnostic Center (main campus only).  At SDI Centers we offer CT Angiography for renal or peripheral arteries.
